Support for schools
Persistent non-attendance creates immediate pressure on attendance, safeguarding, and outcomes.
Without effective short-term provision, pupils can become increasingly disengaged and at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).
Calm to Class offers
Short-term, education-focused provision for pupils who are at risk of not attending or are unable to remain in school.
This is not a tuition service. Lessons focus on attention and awareness, managing distress, managing emotions, and working with others.
Each lesson builds the skills needed to attend, stay, and function in a learning environment.
How the work is carried out
Work begins from what the pupil can currently manage.
Lessons are structured and predictable.
Demand is set at a level the pupil can sustain, and increased as their capacity improves.
Regular communication is maintained with the school & parent.
The aim is to establish a routine that can transfer back into school.
What is taught
Pupils are taught practical skills that allow them to remain in a learning environment.
This work is structured around four areas:
Attention and awareness
noticing what is happening in the moment
bringing attention back to the task
reducing distraction and avoidance
Managing distress
staying in the room when it feels difficult
working through short periods of discomfort
reducing the need to leave or avoid
Managing emotions
recognising rising emotional responses
slowing reactions
maintaining enough control to continue learning
Working with others
responding to instruction
managing interactions with adults
maintaining engagement without escalation
These skills are taught as part of the lesson itself and strengthened through repeated practice.
Timeframe
Support is time-limited and focused on building the skills needed to return to school.
The length of placement is guided by the pupil’s starting point and reviewed regularly with the school.
The aim is not long-term provision, but a planned return to school.
Referral process
Schools can make an enquiry by email hello@calmtoclass.com or using the enquiry form.
An initial discussion will confirm whether the placement is appropriate and establish a clear starting point.
If appropriate, a start plan is agreed, including initial level of demand and communication with school.
